🎥in my target langs this weekend #langsky

Viikossa aikuiseksi, J. Vuoksenmaa: at the Institut finlandais in Paris, presented by the person who wrote the subtitles (I think)

Black Dog (狗阵), Hu Guan: in the cinemas right now. China before Beijing 2008, beautifully filmed impacts of the big event

🎥 Another French movie I can recommend - Vingt Dieux

How it feels to be young in the region where France’s favourite cheese is produced (lots of love and alcohol…)

starting this week in its German version (Könige des Sommers) and soon enough in English (Holy Cow)

I did not want to make any new years resolutions, but somehow got caught by @65words.bsky.social post…

-> and so I tried to write a bit of Polish (for Finnish I would run out of words too quickly)

Will I make a habit out of it??

I just got myself these ones here, in French, but I also read in English and German. For my colleagues Spanish and Arab are other possibilities

#MLsky please tell me about other books you enjoyed on generative AI (introductory level)

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Lot’s of water in #Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse today

This small river has about tripled or more, overflowing our garden during the night, now slowly shrinking again

The city center remains closed due to the floods

We saw the exposition on La Régence, à l’aube des lumières: Louis XV was only 5 yrs old, when Louis XIV died. So Louis XIV nephew handled state affairs until Louis XV was 13 and considered old enough 😲 to reign a country

🎥 Club Zero - something Austrian 😀 - was not so well received here around Paris. Maybe the humour didn’t cross borders too well - people were discussing wether it was serious or not during the debate that followed the screening

Then again, my own favorite of Jessica Hausnef remains Little Joe

Festival VO-VF - Becky Chambers or how to translate non binary characters into French?

The translator Marie Surgers chose the pronoun iel for they, but refuses the “point médian”:
- Dex n’est pas gentil•le mais sympa, agréable
- Une autre personne ne l’a pas rejoint•e, mais arrive à son hauteur

Festival VO-VF: festival de traduction

Robert Walser, écrivain suisse. Son œuvre « Vie de poète » a été présentée par sa traductrice Marion Graf hier

Après 3 romans, il se retrouve dans l’incapacité de reproduire un 4ème et se tourne vers une forme plus court

And the second: This sauce is a little like ketchup and it contains rose hips from the Alps. It is indeed spicy, but "hot" pronounced with a French accent also sounds like "haute", meaning "high"

--> something hot from (high) haute altitude

1/2 Hi, #langsky!
Here are 2 French-English puns from the Alps based on the well-known French problem of pronouncing the letter h - wondering how they are received in a non-french context - let me know!

First one: Isère, a département in the French Alps, advertises like this:
