Laura (she/her). Taking notes of what I like.
🥳 Recent successes:
I’ve bought tickets for this year’s Grafixx and have read the really great books “Nur für Mitglieder” by Thorsten Nagelschmidt and “Urlaub vom Patriarchat” by Friederike Oertel.

Can recommend doing all these things! 💛🧡

The Grafixx fest and Antwerp itself have been so nice!! The festival is such a fun way to see art and artists.
And I found a gem of a book at the zine fest: “Het meisje en de rots” with words by Kristien In-‘t-Ven and illustrations by Martha Verschaffel ❤️‍🩹✨ A very moving story about handling grief.

I had a great evening with Thorsten Nagelschmidt yesterday and highly recommend reading his novel SOLEDAD. ❤️ The life stories/choices of the two protagonists seem so different on first sight, but on a deeper level there are quite some similarities to discover.

Now (nearly) on the way to Antwerp! 🥳

Nearly one year since I’ve been active on here for the last time... And soon it’s -again- time for the GRAFIXX FEST, a festival for visual storytelling & illustration ❤️
Right now I’m starting into the weekend by reading the 19th issue of FUKT, magazine for contemporary drawing. Topic: Story lines ✨

After a marathon of 1.5 days baking Christmas cookies, I’m cooking a simple bean soup now and I don’t think anything could make me happier. 💥

I’ve spent a long weekend in London last week and just immediately remembered, why I’ve been there so often a few years back - instantly feeling at home. Big love for this city and big love for the Spook School for whose concert we’ve been there 💖❤️‍🩹

Today and yesterday I caught up with Venster’s “From the Desk” session with Vyara Boyadjieva. She’s an illustrator and picture book maker and shared her process of creating a book about the city of Sofia. Such a lovely event with lots of beautiful art, stories about the city and behind-the-scenes! ❤️

After three days of small press and diy zines, illustration exhibitions, animated short films and encouraging talks my mind and heart are still in Antwerp. What an absolutely awesome place is the Grafixx Fest?! 🥰

Last read: “An den Ufern von Stellata” by Daniela Raimondi and “Naphtalin” by Sole Otero. They both have the theme of (a often tragic) family history.

I enjoyed the first one lots and immersed myself in it on several days of commute while the latter was a much quicker, visually interesting read.

In five days I’m going to leave for Antwerp to visit the Grafixx festival and I’m so f*** excited to see María Medem 🥰
Her massive comic “Por culpa de una flor” (Because of a flower) is my favourite book this year! ✨ Reading it felt as relaxing as a walk in nature and the use of colours is stunning.
