I am by no means an expert on Eddie Palmieri, but this record "Unfinished Masterpiece" is one of my favorite salsa records and a big part of why I've gotten so obsessed with the genre recently, you should check it out if you haven't.

insane that pain of salvation have a song with the lyric "sick of homies", i wonder if he means these guys

my favorite prog album from the 21st century and my fav prog album from north america in any time frame. still the golden standard for bad ass rock drumming. the salsa sections sent me on a path that I'm only now fully realizing

maybe the best comeback record ever? a complete reinvention that simultaneously pulls from the past of synthesized psychedelia and sounds utterly new and futuristic

"Starless" alone makes this an all timer, a fitting farewell to the high prog era

could've picked any of the first seven, but this is my current fav of the golden age run

me understanding "Nothing": "this is art"

Day 24 - Tyler's first "mature" record puts his sharper than ever lyrical skills in harmony with the jazzy and soulful tendencies that cropped up in his production since he hit the scene. Free from the edgelord antics of his early albums these elements of his style can finally take full bloom. #MWE

Day 23 - Compositions for solo piano and whispered wordless vocals, all soft enough that I could audibly hear my dog snoring in his bed behind me even with headphones on. Pleasant enough but utterly frictionless and forgettable. #MWE
February 24, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Day 22 - As airy as the cover suggests, but don't mistake that for a lack of substance. Despite the light touch, these mostly instrumental tunes are grounded by surprisingly funky grooves and nuanced compositions that elevate Vollenweider and company above mere "to study to" fodder. #MWE

Day 21 - While I respect them as innovators, Godflesh have never been my jam. Some great, simplistic riffs but the stiff drums and off-key vocals make their songs sound like pre-production demos far too often. This album's best moments come in the last 2 tracks when they abandon metal entirely #MWE

Day 20 - An album that would have done me considerable psychic damage had I heard it at 16 when it was released. Teenage makeout music played at earsplitting amplification. Much of it is too sweet for my tastebuds, but "Red Sea" is an incredible piece of guitar art. #MWE

Day 19 - Meticulously detailed polyrhythmic jazz fusion that nonetheless comes off as cool and aloof. This is not a shredder's affair, instead building complexity out of dizzying interlocking rhythms and sonic manipulation inspired by dub and loop music. Weather Report for the Playstation 2. #MWE
February 20, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Day 18 - A softer, synth-inflected take on the nü-metal sound from Finland. The influence of Deftones looms large over these tunes, which ironically makes them sound *less* dated in 2025. The electronic elements and electric piano are nice touches. Vocals are weirdly indistinct in the mix. #MWE

Day 17 - Don't let the art fool you, there are no lutes or flutes to be found on this French metalcore band's debut full length. Instead Sorcerer keep things simple. Non-stop mosh riffs only broken up by ominous chiming leads. Till the fields, then open up the pit. #MWE

Day 16 - Quick & dirty counter-programming to the guest-laden Metro collaborations last year, this solo mixtape finds Future doing what he does best, making spending money sound miserable, with his trademark mix of melody & underrated lyricism over beats almost too freshly out of the oven. #MWE
February 18, 2025 at 9:26 PM
Day 15 - Framed by Alice Coltrane's fluttering harp, these four tunes can't help but feel like they emerge from a dream. As with the last Tyner record I listened to the standout stars are Carter & Jones on bass & drums but Shorter makes a big impression on "Message" and "Survival Blues" #MWE
February 18, 2025 at 3:38 PM
Day 14 - A compilation of outsider pop tunes that due to the rough production and natural obscurity comes "pre-vaporwaved". Tape wobble, unintelligible vocals, throwback instrumentation etc. More of a curiosity than a genuine jam, I'd prefer to listen to a finished product from the era instead #MWE
February 17, 2025 at 4:56 PM
Day 13 - Lord forgive me, but I had to go back to the old me. While drummer Mike Portnoy's return results in some of the best paced and most thrilling instrumental passages in the band's recent history, the AI art says it all regarding the rest of Dream Theater's priorities. #MWE
February 14, 2025 at 4:14 PM
Day 12 - Do you like the Yamaha DX7? Do you harbor a dream to Go To Brazil? If you, like me, have considered learning Portuguese and have an unhealthy preference for synthesizers of the past, this album of obscure electro-jams is for you. #MWE
February 14, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Day 11 - Rare that I'm ever introduced to a band by their remix album, but this collection of extended and alt mixes left me curious about what original tunes could have inspired such mind-bending interpretations. "Listless Dream" in particular is out of this world good #MWE
