It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong.

v. 1751

I like dogs and books and using the Internet to blog thoughts 350 characters at a time. Welcome.
"I wish, my dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words, to convince you that I love you.”
...
“Like a jealous lover, when I thought you slighted my caresses, my affection was alarmed and my vanity piqued.”
Alexander Hamilton in letters to John Laurens.

"The tyranny of a Prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy".

This one might be its own thread one night. Reminds me to put together thoughts on Machiavelli (🖤) too.

It's happening. It's here. I'm terrified. I read books that make me feel like this isn't the end and there is a way through. Final Montesquieu quotes on this and next slide:

"There is no higher cruelty of tyranny than that which is perpetrated from behind the shield of law in the name of justice".

I am a state worker in a Sanctuary state.

This week I completed training on how to protect any of my "illegal" clients from being discovered and/or detained by ICE.

The federal policy warned if anyone is discovered protecting "them", we will be investigated by the DOJ for the obstruction.

"The deterioration of a government begins almost always by the decay of its principles".

This works in both directions and can be for the better. Today's case it is not.

We are seeing the Executive shift into the overt destruction of our national values.

Final thoughts on the next slide.

It is too easy for those of a maturer age to instill their decaying values on the minds of the youth when an already problematic education system is crippled further.

Montesquieu, who himself did not live to see the American or French revolution, predicted both those events. As follows:

Back to the even younger people.
COVID created a perfect storm to manifest an echo chamber of dangerous rhetoric. Kids who were freshmen in high school during 2019-20. We separated an entire generation from each other who were no longer being exposed to the perspectives of the rest of their peers.

From the beginning I've tried to gently tell people in my life who support him that he could not care less about you. If he were tasked with saving your life or being paid $.68, he would take the 68 cents.

Our leaders should CARE about US. Where do we go when they don't?

Despot is a funny term because it typically only refers to one single unjust, absolute ruler. I think in the 21st century, despot should actually refer to the group. There's no way they're able to operate without one another and they all have equal gains from the project.
January 24, 2025 at 7:43 AM
Montesquieu had plenty of time to address the other Stooges of our Saga. You can fill in the blanks of who those are when considering this.

"In despotic governments, people are equal only because they are all nothing; they are equally slaves to the despot"

His little colony of oligarchs are all elder millennial to solidly gen x white men who, before 10 months ago, were not particularly politically inclined.
January 24, 2025 at 7:32 AM
A bipartisan, almost universal ideal this past election pertained to everyone involved being TOO DAMN OLD.

"It is not young people that degenerate; they are not spoiled until those of maturer age are already sunk into corruption".
[The Spirit of Laws, 1748]

Montesquieu, like Voltaire, changed his name.

I actually had to look this up to get it right because..
*Inhale*
📢 Charles Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu 📢

Baby names today just don't go as hard as the 17th century names, shame.

Returning with more thoughts on words written by French men who've been now long dead.

Notice how the French aren't in this same situation?

We should have listened to them.
