I have also used Footprints travel guides in the past with good success and it looks like they have multiple ones on Brazil, rio, etc

If it were Europe I would say a Rick Steves book - they are fabulous! But he doesn’t publish much about South America. He did host a guy on his podcast who was a Brazil travel expert awhile back - Seth Kugel. Here’s one of his articles
