BDS has a standing boycott target on Microsoft products which people can realistically drop from their lives, understanding that not everyone can change their operating system. Emails cost them nothing. They can delete them, ignore them, forget they exist, whatever.
But there is a dollar cost associated with every single customer service call. That's why most phone trees are over-automated these days. Calling messes up the C/S team goals.
