There are people in the Transformers fandom who earnestly defend this movie and I do not understand how

I love that Tomino was able to turn the Federation into the big bad of Zeta and establish such diabolical characters while not just going for the easy method of “This was a good organization until The Problem Dragon took over, and now if we kill the Problem Dragon, the government will be saved”

Zeta Gundam had to do the difficult task of going “hey remember the good guys we fought for last time? They’re actually the bad guys now, have slid into fascism, and gassed a whole fucking colony without dramatically changing leadership or ideology beforehand, this is their backstory” and it WORKS

I have no idea what Tomino Gundam thing is my favorite but god his UC stuff is so fucking complex and fascinating in a way that sticks in my brain and lives forever
