There is a fascinating chart in this article showing total fertility rate by country. It got me thinking - and I know nothing about demography - but is there a TFR-like metric adjusted for how many children survive past a certain age? www.npr.org/2025/10/27/n...

I once accidentally stumbled across this format when the shutter in my old Minolta X700 broke and I got a whole film of unintentional half-frames. This one was stitched together digitally and is nowhere close to your thoughtful triptychs.

I am sensing a shift in tone of some AI proponents, from ‘you’re criticising AI because you’re in a cope bubble’ to ‘you don’t understand what AI should be used for’. I reckon that’s a step in the right direction.

My local school board is not going to solve my blocked pipe problem. If you want to unblock a kitchen pipe, you call a plumber. Yet we continuously make this exact mistake with AI. We ask AI to do things it cannot do, then criticize it when it fails. We treat it like a database when it is not one. We expect it to be a search engine, a calculator, or a fact-checker, then act surprised when it falls short. The solution is not to declare AI useless. The solution is to understand what tool we are actually using. Just like you would not call a school board for plumbing issues, do not expect AI to excel at tasks it was never designed to handle
