✏️ Happy Labor Day! 🖌️

Did you know that AI “art” is labor theft?

Hi. I’m a professional traditional artist of over 15 years & I was able to make a decent living until 3 years ago.

In May 2023, over 50 of my paintings had been scraped without my consent to fuel AI image generators like Midjourney.

Great to see @greenjennyjones.bsky.social table our ask for renters to be compensated if a landlord evicts under new Grounds 1 & 1A.

'Relocation Relief' will:

- Help with the cost of an unwanted move
- Give renters more time to find somewhere new
- Help turn off the tap between PRS & TA

I was very surprised to find Sooz Kempner blocked me as I was typing this post. Given we've never interacted before, I can only assume she saw the typing icon and thought nobody typing that long could be typing anything good.

It's important tho. So I'm re-linking it.
Hi Sooz. I vote Labour for a simple reason. Basic survival.

I'm a child of immigrant parents and have lost a lot of friends over the years for looking British but pointing out their bullshit would deport me too. They don't change their minds, they just pretend they can't see me. That's Reform.

Alexandra Palace model train show yesterday. Very crowded this year! Good weather, and a lot of tramway layouts.

I gave @rapidotrains.co.uk quite a lot of money.

Amazing loot haul from some real cave-of-wonders second-hand places. Real Dunsany/Pratchett Mysterious Shop territory...

I was amused to discover that the Lego Pirates range has a canon outcome. The Tudor Corner set has bollards said to be taken from the booty of a great victory over the pirates by the Sea Hawk, the name of the Caribbean Clipper set in the UK.

Vindication for those brave brickish bluecoats.

My stance on leasehold abolition is the same as it has been for the last decade.

I'll believe it when I'm reading the Act.

If you're going to have Elmo as guest announcer on the Tube, at least have him tell us to mind the gap.

Another of those "welcome to my day job" kind-of posts. UK consultations work differently and attract a different flavour of Concerned Citizen, but the atmosphere could be any CPO hearing.
Happy Tuesday, folks! I’m spending my evening at a city council meeting in the Bay Area suburb of Menlo Park (average home value $2,600,000), home of Facebook, where a battle is brewing over an item to convert 3 downtown parking lots (gasp!) into affordable housing.

Grab some 🍿, 🧵starts here!

A delightful thread on a 1920s debate in the House of Lords on why banning lesbianism will just encourage it:
Lesbianism should only be undertaken with a man present, to make sure it doesn't all get out of hand.

An idea is only debatable if a reasonable person of good faith can hold either position.

"Are immigrants/trans people/ nonwhite people entitled to human rights: Yes or No?" isn't one of them.

Oddly enough, this is a real movement: In response to X/Twitter announcing they are using user content to train AI, Korean users began describing "destroying Elon Musk's testicles with a spinning kick" as a healthy and wholesome traditional activity in order to contaminate the AI training data.
Finally a Political Movement I can actually get behind:

"Some say that ever ’gainst that season comes
Wherein our Savior’s birth is celebrated,
This bird of dawning singeth all night long;" - Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 1.

Let's hear it for our brave rooster boys, prepping for their vigil to keep Christmas free of vengeful royal ghosts.

Pick a movie, keep one actor, the rest are Muppets.

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. Keep DeForest Kelley
Pick a movie, keep one actor, the rest are Muppets. Die Hard. Keep Alan Rickman.

My many hours in Railroad Tycoon games *do* confirm that I am three small steam engines in a trenchcoat.

But all my friends knew that anyway. Choo choo!

This implies Darths run on the same rules as traditional rural Wales. Darth Plagueis the Straw, Darth Plagueis the Vile, Darth Plagueis the Cruel, Darth Plagueis the Steam...

Works alarmingly well, doesn't it?
did we ever tell you the tale of Darth Plagueis the Straw

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

I swear, any in-house internal legal sign-off or review process always degenerates into an endurance contest as senior managers try to get their documents shoved past without having to sully their keyboards with making amendments.
