I took a video of these birds on my honeymoon a couple weeks ago (my wife who knows more about birds than I do knew what kind they are but I have forgotten and she is not in the room right now) because they were very fun and there were many of them just hanging out by the bridge we were on

Letter from the Bishop of the Diocese of Texas dated January 28, 2025: Dear Friends in Christ, Grace and peace to you from God, our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. I write to you today as we find ourselves navigating a moment of unprecedented and unsettling change. The recent executive order that undermines the sanctity of schools, hospitals, and churches as safe spaces for all people has left many of us shaken. The suggestion that birthright citizenship may no longer be protected only deepens the anxiety and fear rippling through our communities. I never thought I would live in a time when the United States government would censure a bishop, jeopardize religious free speech, or threaten to take people while they attend worship. 30 years ago I remember hearing such stories from Orthodox friends regarding churches in the then Soviet Union. Not all of you see these threats in the same light as I do or as your brother, sister, and sibling clergy do. I do know this - you love each other and care for each other beyond any political divide, resting in the knowledge that it is God's mercy and grace that unifies us under the banner of his love. Still, I know that for many, this marks the beginning of a new and fearful territory—one in which long-standing assumptions about safety, inclusion, and belonging feel uncertain. As your bishop, I want to assure you that I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you. (1/3) To our clergy, I know the weight you carry. You are ministering in an atmosphere where fear looms large, and your own efforts to offer care and accompaniment may feel fragile in the face of such uncertainty. Please hear this: your work is sacred. Your quiet fidelity to the Gospel, your commitment to those on the margins, and your presence in the lives of your people are a balm in these times. I know some of you carry these burdens not only as pastors but also personally, particularly those among us whose own documentation status leaves them vulnerable. I am deeply mindful of the fear and strain this moment places upon you. Please know that you are not alone. I will be reaching out to offer support, prayer, and any practical (2/3) To our congregations, I want to offer words of hope and consolation. We are a people of resurrection faith, and though fear may darken the days ahead, we stand rooted in the promise that light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it. Our churches are called to be sanctuaries—places of refuge, accompaniment, and courage. Together, we can embody the love of Christ, creating spaces where those who are afraid can find strength, and those who feel unseen can know they are beloved. Let us commit ourselves anew to the work of accompaniment—walking alongside one another in steadfast love and care. Let us continue to advocate for the dignity of every person while ministering with wisdom and discretion, ensuring that our actions do not draw unhelpful attention but instead reflect the strength of the Gospel. Above all, I want to remind you that we are not alone. The Spirit is with us, comforting us in our fear and strengthening us for the road ahead. As the psalmist reminds us, "The Lord is our light and our salvation; whom shall we fear? The Lord is the stronghold of our life; of whom shall we be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1). I invite each of you to join me in prayer for one another, for those most vulnerable in our communities, and for the healing and justice of our nation. And I encourage you to reach out to one another and to my office if there is any way we can support you.
