Today is day 110 since Andry Hernandez Romero was disappeared to CECOT in El Salvador. Kilmar has now confirmed what we have feared since 3/15 — Andry has almost certainly endured 110 days of torture.

Andry’s case is bigger than him. While we fight to save his life & undo this travesty of justice, we also fight for the future of our democracy. We fight for due process & for the rule of law. We fight for Andry but also know his fight is one that none of us can afford to lose.

It is our hope that soon Judge Boasberg will order the return of Andry, our other clients at CECOT & all of the men unjustly imprisoned there. Like so many following his case, I wake up every day and think of Andry. We are not giving up until he is safe and free. #BringThemBack

In last 100 days Trump admin moved to further erase Andry by getting his asylum case dismissed. But we are still fighting for his return and the return of all the men sent with no due process to CECOT. Andry is now one of the lead plaintiffs in JGG v. Trump which remains pending.

After more than 15 hours of attorneys advocating at the federal building since yesterday, @immdef.bsky.social client Javier is finally free. He is now on his way to his chemo appointment with his nephew. He let us know he is so grateful to everyone who fought for his release. ❤️

10 hours after @immdef.bsky.social got here to advocate for Javier’s release, we are leaving w/out him. We fought all day, talked to every ICE officer we could. But they won’t say whether they’ll release tonight, & even if they do, won’t give a time estimate. We will be back to fight again tomorrow!

10 hours after @immdef.bsky.social got here to advocate for Javier’s release, we are leaving w/out him. We fought all day, talked to every ICE officer we could. Tomorrow will be 40 days since Andry disappeared. Despite calls for his release & information on his condition from Gov Newsom, Rep García, Rep Takano, Rep Frost, Rep Dexter, Rep Ansari & more he continues to be held completely incommunicado, w/ no access to his family or lawyers.
ICE also filed a change of address today which ironically is first doc that confirms Andry’s rendition was pursuant to AEA. We noted in court it mistakenly says last place of detention was SD, not TX. Shocking how sloppy ICE is in a case that has garnered such public attention.

Despite disappearing Andry 5 weeks ago, Govt filed motion to dismiss 44 minutes b4 today’s hearing. Only evidence in support of motion is this “Verification of Removal” dated 3/15.

I look at this & wonder what he must have thought & felt in that moment as he prayed. Confusion, terror, panic? I think about his mom & the heartbreak she must feel. Our @ImmDef team is gutted, & we worry every moment that Andry will never get out of that hellhole. #FreeAndry

Reminder that this is Andry. He is a professional makeup artist from Venezuela. He has no criminal history. He has been in a theater troupe since he was 7 and loves pageants. His family is distraught and misses him. He is sitting in a cell in El Salvador tonight. #FreeAndry

Horrified to see this image, of our @ImmDef client Andry, being brutalized and terrorized at the CECOT in El Salvador by men with chains & masks & AK47s. The @TIME photographer described him being slapped as he pleaded with them. We now know it was Andry crying out for his mom.

Not shocking same week the Trump administration attempted to defund the organizations like @immdef.bsky.social that defend these kids in court, this news breaks. This is a concerted effort to target the most vulnerable. Just like w/ family separation, he hopes people will look away. Please don’t!

I don’t know if ppl voted to put kids at risk of trafficking. I don’t know if they hoped child victims of violence or sexual assault would lose lawyers fighting to keep them safe. I don’t know if they voted for an America where toddlers are forced to defend themselves when their lives depend on it.

As an immigration lawyer who has spent my entire career in public service and who has worked on and managed this children’s services contract first at Catholic Charities and now ImmDef for nearly 15 years, this decision by the Trump administration is a punch to the gut.

Yesterday morning, with no notice, ImmDef received a stop-work order from the Trump administration cutting off all funding for our legal services program for children. This order impacts more than 85 legal service providers nationally and 26,000 vulnerable children who are facing deportation.
