Ask the people who know me, literally every time Madoka Magica's darkness comes up i insist that every magical girl show has that feature. The only difference is that with Madoka Magica, it's the point, not a background conflict.
You can tell the media literacy and level of complicated subjects the average American cartoons only watcher/Disney Adult is capable of by the fact they think Madoka is a grimdark show and not a pretty standard mahou shoujo of the era. No wonder they often don't really handle adult media well either

re last repost: I realise engaging with a joke post is peak bluesky but I will die on the hill that Madoka isn't a subversion of the magical girl genre, it's just a magical girl show for an older audience. Madoka's ultimate manifestation as hope is no different to Sakura's being "daijoubu."
