We know it! According to the cdc 25%of adults are afraid of needles & 16% avoid vaccines because of needle fear. Our pro vax comms needs to stop showing images of needles & stop using violent language like “jab” or “shot”
I think a huuuuuuge part of vaccine hesitancy is sublimated fear of needles

“The attempted patriarchal mass murder of this woman’s career” is an interesting way to describe a bunch of underpaid/out-of-work, mostly women journalists expressing disgust with the unprofessional behavior of every person in the whole awful affair, who have been and continue to be rewarded for it
Possibly the only thing more freakish than Nuzzi's prose is the contortions her defenders twist themselves into. "She's not just hot, but she definitely is hot, while also being a vulnerable smol child. Also, criticizing her is sexist."

Shockingly our meritocratic elites are obsessed with excuses to find people wanting, & that obsession is strongest & most pathological regarding the people they deem suited for menial or domestic labor, & the people charged with raising their sons
part of it i rarely see commented on is how much of this is just shaming mothers for trying to raise their kids as best they can. the endless optimization, the vaccines, the formula, the dietary restrictions, the (not so much) subtext is "if you don't follow this thick ass book you're a bad mom"

The first principle of this is a load-bearing English middle class belief that all mental disorders are faked, that anyone sick for longer than a week is malingering, that people who say they are allergic to things are lying for attention, and so on.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Watching Dems talk about whether the people killed in the second strike were "in the fight" is driving me to madness this is all highly fucking illegal and you need to say that clearly the US government is not allowed to randomly kill people on the high seas

Since day one, Western reporting overestimates Ru's strength and underestimates Ukraine, subtly legitimizes Ru's aggression by repeating various Ru pretexts for the war, and overwhelmingly pities Ukraine, subtly creating the impression that their loss is a foregone conclusion.
Noticed tonight that @cbsnews.com coverage of the situation in Ukraine had plenty on Russian strikes and non-progress of US peace efforts, but nothing on Ukrainian counterattacks into Russia, sanctions, nor EU military support.

Seems biased towards the Russian perspective.

This is horrific and exactly what those of us in Black studies, gender studies, women’s studies have been warning our colleagues in the sciences about. Their seeming neutrality will not save them.
Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Transphobia is a luxury belief. Yes, ordinary people are often ambiently transphobic, but they have bigger things to worry about. The true believers are wealthy, powerful, influential, and face no real hardship that would force them to prioritize issues that affect them.
They genuinely don't have anything better to do. These are not people capable of great things. That she was so capable, that trans people can attain successes they must win with lies & slander, gnaws at them. Even when they win, for them it has no savor
