In the game The Last of Us, the zombie virus is airborne in addition to bites. Areas with low ventilation pose the risk of spores, and so masking is required. They did away with the spores aspect in the HBO adaptation, which I was sad about.

What *does* occur in almost every zombie (and vampire) flick: Discussion of "Well we know xxx can hurt them, that's their weakness" and, later, "That's not your brother (mother, best friend, accountant, etc) anymore!" and consequent argument prior to slaying of said ex-person
