7. PLUS ULTRA by Sarah Fletcher - a... poetry collection. About? Who knows. Way too Eliot-inspired for my tastes. Lots of (too) clever, beautiful language that made me feel absolutely nothing. Impenetrable, and I'm not persuaded that pushing through was ultimately worth it. A slog, alas.

6. Remains by Lou Willingham - a pamphlet about death and death work. Quite liked it, but it was definitely a little surface level in terms of language and imagery; I like my grief poetry to be raw and INTENSE

5. Muse by Dawn Marie Kresan - a really, really brilliant collection about Elizabeth Siddal and the concept of the female 'muse' to a highly acclaimed man. Absolutely loved this one. Will probably reread 50 times.

4. Girls Etc by Rhian Elizabeth - a collection about uneasy motherhood and abuse in a lesbian relationship. I liked this a lot, but less than I expected; I think I wanted it to be longer!

3. Salted Wounds by Mohammed Moussa - poetry about daily life in Gaza, from the normal heartbreaks to the immense trauma of relentless war
August 3, 2025 at 1:10 PM
2. Blue by Tanicia Pratt - poems about heartbreak (in this case, having a long-term affair with a married man) and women's lives and masculinity in The Bahamas. Really liked this one - loved the use of local vernacular and the repeated storm imagery

1. My Urohs by Emelihter Kihleng - poetry about Pohnpeian culture and diaspora. Pohnpei is 1 of the 4 islands that makes up the Federated States of Micronesia. Lots of Pohnpeian language and culture in this one, super interesting, deliberately a bit inaccessible

Being very productive in my second week of septoplasty recovery. I am now readily available for Pointless competitions.

Screaming, crying, throwing up with excitement as Caerphilly Castle has reopened at last, they've really amped up the Hugh Despenser content, AND they have the historical thing I'm most obsessed with in the whole world: the inventory of Hugh & Edward's belongings, primarily THE SAFFRON BEAR ROBE

Just finished this book in one sitting, letting my cup of tea go cold, doing a few heaving sobs, relishing every sentence. Hoo boy. This is one of Those Books that you read once and it stays with you forever. The kind of book that it's just such an enormous privilege to read.

Had the best evening at the Women's Prize party with the rest of the 2025 Discoveries gang, felt very fancy, spoke to some long-term mutuals in the flesh, ate a weird avocado canapé, 12/10 night

Hello, dyspraxic here. What the fuck do I do with this smoke alarm? I can't find any battery or any clue that it's linked to the mains. I have no make/model or manual. It's screaming at me. Please, for my sake, help an idiot out.

20/10 for this National Trust employee, who clearly had the time of their life writing this little letter as part of the dressing for one of the rooms at Mompesson House
