1️⃣ I'm glad that fossil fuel subsidies are a 🔥 topic now, but the reporting on them is consistently lazy. In this recent piece for the @envjournal, the journalist clearly has not done his homework and yet speaks of sums in the trillions of dollars as if he knows what he's talking about.

This is probably partly the fault of the headline writer, but even what Georgieva is quoted as saying suggests that she doesn’t really understand the IMF estimates that her staff has fed her.

To start, the $7 trln/year does not represent what governments “spend” annually on 🌎 fossil fuel subsidies.
