This is, in large part, pandemic revenge.

As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do.

They can't keep spewing carbon.

They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying.

They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.
Absolute BLOODBATH at HHS/NIH/CDC this morning. Generation of scientists, health care officials being wiped out

Donald Trump’s authoritarian second term has led critics to describe him as a fascist in the mold of Adolf Hitler.

But Trump’s reactionary politics are all-American — and the path to defeating him runs through reform of America’s antidemocratic institutions.

Austerity is back, but this time it is not just a bad idea. It is also a political weapon and a dangerous redistributive tool.

I thought I’d start putting together a list for people working within queer and trans Marxism.

Please let me know if that’s you, so I can add you!

Trump clearly thinks he’s a God. The scary part is that a bunch of Americans seem to agree, rushing to comply with illegal executive orders and assuming any declaration he makes is a foregone conclusion.

My op-ed: "Colleges and universities ... seem to be hoping that their muted responses — and affirmative acquiescence — will spare them. ...This sort of acquiescence will not only fail to protect institutions, but will expose all of us to further repression."

800 people were or are imprisoned in Guantanamo over the whole course of the War on Terror. The torture camp was and is an abomination, should have been closed long since.

But 30,000 people, potentially seized from American soil and shoved off to this partially-lawless zone in an ethnic cleanse...

“We must not mistake current practices of policing, surveillance, and deportations as a “moment in time.” Instead, (…) continuing legacies of resistance requires us to turn our attention to enduring strains of violence perpetuated by the U.S. racist, colonial, and capitalist history.”
Anti-detention activists, and the broader migrant justice movement, aren't just concerned with keeping people from deportation. Their aim is to put an end to the harms of the entire punishment industry.

How are scrapping off the DEIs, removing social benefits, starting mass deportations, and imposing tariffs on imported goods all sides of the same coin?
