I do find it fascinating how people are reacting to these families' 'plight' as they get exactly what they signed up for (Russians would force our kids to learn Russian before they go to school!) compared to what people said about the Black woman who moved to Russia ages ago b/c of racism.

Finally, calling Black people uneducated, that they have no civilization (class) etc. were the same forms of discrimination African students faced in the Soviet Union (incl. Latvia) throughout the 1960s to the collapse. Same vein of dog whistle thrown at Serena + Venus for being "too manly."
