He would also make fun of them with cleverness and probably a significant degree of vulgarity.
I was already a Hauerwas fan, but in my one encounter with the man (asking him to sign a book), he lightly remarked that many in my tradition (Dutch Reformed) were assholes 😂.

Sorry you had to endure this. I am sure I quoted Hauerwas in my sem experience (schools that were not in the Hauerwasian strain), but I never got a reaction like this.
