Early bday dinner at the new steakhouse on the town square was the best meal I’ve had in ages. Bartender made me a mocktail so good we had another round of them at the bar after dinner. Caesar salad was the best I’ve had in years, filet wasn’t too shabby, and the street corn was pure mouth sorcery.

Quick hike back to Chunanee Falls yesterday. 🤎 Fall in North Georgia 🧡

Hubs is going to lose his shit when he opens the Xmas present I scored for him randomly and cheaply at the thrift store. It’s missing the necklace but I’ll figure that out.

Beautiful and talented bomb-sniffer Bella came to our mental health fair so everyone could pet her and also she made out with me.

Spent some time at Emory Midtown hospital today. They had little aviaries inside. Smol adorbs birbs.

Knowing I was bringing home Botiwalla from ATL made spending an hour+ in the MRI machine with my head in a cage and a bite block in my mouth totally worth it.

Heard “Red Dirt Girl” live tonight and can die happy now.

I picked The Day to go thrifting yesterday. Scored this mint condition funky vintage velvet surprisingly-super-comfy loveseat for $4.99. Not a typo. Decided it fit right in in my weirdo “me” room I made over in the basement last summer.

Found this little darling by James from my late high school years in a thrift store yesterday. Sweet nostalgia.

1,312 days after starting grad school (again) for a career change to professional counseling, I officially became a licensed associate professional counselor today. Next up, school counselor add-on certification to my 20-year-old educator’s license license and full prof. licensure.

So sad my Georgia Master Naturalist program had to come to an end today, but grateful for the unique learning opportunity. It was such a fun summer that felt like an adventure every Monday.

Hubs left this morning for a long work week in Cali. Cue the Carole King.

My favorite forest friend, one of at least two that we have in our little woods. Here’s 90 seconds of her beautiful little life she let me observe this morning. Eastern box turtles are rare among reptiles for their site fidelity, i.e. staying in a small home range, sometimes for 30+ years.

Ohh hiiiii . . . what a fun guy! 😋

Found this when I’d just gone about twenty feet into our forest this morning for a walk. It’s in the ploypore family, Ganoderma sessile maybe . . .

Georgia Master Naturalist Day 6: Entomology and Orienteering/SAR. We captured insects doing net sweeps, and I netted a rove beetle, which the entomologist said was kind of rare. In the pm, we learned how to use a compass, read USNG maps/coordinates, and plot our course/bearings by hand. Great day!

Something cool I got to do with marginal extra driving/hiking effort this morning: observe colonies of wading birds on Woody Pond at Harris Neck Nationale Wildlife Refuge. I had this place all to myself with the birds and butterflies and dragonflies.

I went on the trip to Cumberland Island partly because I wanted to see the elusive painted bunting. I did spot him in the wild, albeit in an unexpected habitat.
