Canine research assistant is growing into the role. Still has a taste for paper and notebooks and has a tendency to fall asleep on the job, but I’m sure that she’ll be digging in the archives in no time.

It was lovely to visit Bantry yesterday for the West Cork Literary Festival and have the opportunity to read an excerpt from my current work-in-progress as part of the writing groups lead by the Cork County Writer in residence Leeanne O’Donnell (do check out her book Sparks of Bright Matter!).

I’m absolutely delighted to receive my contributor copy of ‘Bluestockings and Landscape in Eighteenth-Century Britain’. Thank you to the editors, Markman Ellis and Jack Orchard, and congratulations to all contributors. I can’t wait to read all the other chapters!

Just a little bear. Shows promise as a research assistant as he has developed quite a taste for papers and books.

An apprentice canine research assistant has recently joined me. She seems to have an aptitude for social media and technology. At least, I’ve already had to confiscate my phone from her once this morning.

I’ve had a lot of new followers. Firstly, hello! Secondly, I can’t help but fear you’ll find me terribly boring. I share all the same interests as a Victorian lady sent to the seaside to recover her health: reading, writing, drawing, piano, knitting, and swimming. I do have a very cute dog though.

Spending time at historic houses and ruins def had the biggest impact on me in sparking my love of history, but also some books and films.
Places: Bartow Pell Mansion Museum and the ruins of Puxley Mansion (before developers got it).
Film:The Secret Garden (1993)
Book: Castle by David Macaulay

My feline research assistant is rather affronted that he has yet to be mentioned when the canine has been pictured several times. I must rectify this serious omission.

This time last year I was on a research fellowship at Chawton House. I’m very much missing the autumnal morning walks, tearoom scones, and their wonderful library!

Loads of new faces here. Hello! One of my areas of interest is 18th-century responses to and interactions with the Irish landscape. Please enjoy these photos of my canine research assistant responding to Drombeg Stone Circle.
