Maria Felix is limited in her serving capacity because she was rejected by the selection committee a few years ago. Superior Court overrode that decision and brought her on in a limited capacity.

This was the conclusion of a sci fi I read in middle school. The final paragraph was about an alien race that was studying humans, and with a deep sense of sadness and sympathy, told the protagonist that the amazing thing about the human race is that there was only one. It blew my mind.

To illustrate my frustration, the discussion about the $2.7 million in additional funding for the sheriff's department was discussed in one minute. No questions, no substantive context. No mention they are projected to be over budget by millions of dollars in this fiscal cycle.
