Not the best photo but my #BirdOfTheDay #BirdsOnTheGround is of a Great Horned Owl digesting a heavy meal of skunk (we found the head later) in the rain. I was woken up by the in-laws to go check out the owl in their yard. So I ran outside in PJs before it could take off.

Not the best photo but my #BirdOfTheDay #BirdsOnTheGround is of a Great Horned Owl digesting a heavy meal of skunk (we found the head later) in the rain. I was woken up by the in-laws to go check out the owl in their yard. So I ran outside in PJs before it could take off.

Back when I worked for Indigenous Services Canada, the "Union québécoise de réhabilitation des oiseaux de proie", a rehabilitation centre for injured birds of prey brought in a few birds and we had an indigenous Elder speak about their importance. Here is a peregrine falcon. #birds #birdsofprey

Apparently today's #BirdOfTheDay is #FightingBirds or #BirdsFighting and I just can't help but share this photo of a raven and a squirrel fighting over an unseen dead mouse. The raven won and successfully stole the squirrel's pre-winter snack.
