My dad never left the United States but he volunteered to serve in the Army right before Vietnam started for the U.S. It’s wild to see the war listed on his headstone though.

The cold air tonight demanded I make chili. It was a toss up between chicken and beef but beef ($7 a pound!! Omg) won out because I wanted black beans and corn and tomatoes and chili.

This is how we spend our date night. A story and cheese at Wordsworth.

From my garden. The Indian blanket resurged after much needed rain.

I saw this monarch butterfly in my yard today for the first time this year. This thing has to make it to Mexico. It was a small reminder of hope.

Just saw a monarch butterfly on white asters that live in my drainage ditch. #nativeplants

I found this a long time ago about Eric. Kind of a who’s who of Swedish immigrants so I don’t know if it’s bragging or if he contributed more than concrete to those projects. A fun escape from today’s realities.

I believe it was August Skoglund Company. (August and my ggf Eric Emil Skoglund were brothers). They also did concrete/street work (I think that was the bid issue).

Just shared a fall porch pic with my husband back home only to be bitten by a mosquito on my ankle a second later. Sigh. Is it fall yet?

A fall bouquet of mostly native plants from my garden.

I’m grateful for a refreshing night talking books with @halseanderson.bsky.social. And for my best friend LeAnne showing up to be a friendly face in the crowd. And to turn off my “pick kid up from band” alarm. I realized she did it the moment Laurie mentioned she used to set alarms to pick up kids.

Looking forward to Tuesday night with @halseanderson.bsky.social in Fayetteville!

I rode past a one-room school house dating back to the 1880s in Arkansas and an outhouse. Brought back junior high trauma of “Tom Sawyer Day” where our field trip was to a similar spot. And my period started. A freaking out house. Humans are lucky to have survived this long.

Rode my gravel bike for 15 miles today near the tallest mountain in Arkansas. Lots of native plants and four water crossings. I stopped for a moment to snap a photo of this creek.

Slightly cooler temps and recent rain mean my fall native plant blooms are gorgeous right now.

Grateful for moments to celebrate such as being honored as Arkansas’ Communicator of Achievement at tonight’s National Federation of Press Women COA banquet in Colorado. #nfpw2025
