My university has an intensive summer course in Old Irish :) :

I usually do a version of the former (redacted to maintain anonymity) and then add the name at the proofs stage. The advantage of doing it this way is the journal knows to assign enough space for the footnote and there is less chance of creating issues with cross references 😊
