A bit of atmospheric river today is bring all of the woodpeckers to the suet block. Took these within the span of about three minutes. #woodpecker

A Diá de Los Muertos ofrenda with a candle (pumpkin) for fire, mariposas (black) and banner for wind/air, rain behind the window for water, and a churro chocolate bar for earth (because the pan de muerto is still in progress). There are also fake marigold flowers and a stylized cat plush. In the center are three Jane Goodall books, My Life With the Chimpanzees, written early in her career, In the Shadow of Man (signed) from later, and a celebratory coffee table book Jane Goodall: 50 Years at Gombe. Also included is a Jane Goodall Lego set. All of the colors are bright and happy because she brought light to the world.

Okay, I am now in legal compliance. My first read of it was a library book but awesomely unique and weird books eventually get a home on my physical shelves!
A receipt showing purchase of The Shamshine Blind so that Paz Pardo and I can legally be internet friends. I also preordered Midnight Timetable by Bora Chung (translated by Anton Hur) which comes out next week and We Will Rise Again which comes out in December. All were bought on Bookshop.org and support a small, diverse indie bookshop!

I am so happy I have KATABASIS to disappear into right now. As it says on the beautiful sprayed edge, “Hell is Other People”. (Not you. It’s Republicans.) 📚

The book is sitting on a new puzzle from Thames and Hudson called The Story of Rome in 1000 Pieces but it’s really The Aeneid. It matches the book perfectly and features many mini-scenes.

I tend to curate my reading order like a playlist, with variety and themes and all sorts of fun. But sometimes random luck steps in and you end up with consecutive reads with bright colors and cats on the covers and the connection makes itself. (Just finishing LUMINOUS. OMG.) 💙📚👀

Trying to figure out what kind of #hummingbird was peeking at my Bird Buddy cam. It’s too blurry for ID apps. I’m in the Seattle area and usually just see Anna’s and Rufous. #Birdsky

Baby Anna’s hummingbird has been left on a branch of the rhododendron near the window we have feeders on. I guess mama trusts us more than we thought!

See that rectangle shape? It’s a book. This is how USPS delivers them now. Ten years ago, this would have been put on the porch, flat. Now it is literally rolled into a tube and shoved into a too-small mailbox.

Second #MarchMagics2025 read, Diana Wynne Jones’ DOGSBODY. Wow, this one has not aged particularly well. I mean, it’s honest and of its time but the animal cruelty and the cruelty toward a young Irish girl in England is sickening to read now.
