Cilla Black somehow involved!
An obscure “pop” singer called Cilla Black came to open the ship’s closed circuit television - Joe had a good sense of what went down well with the Lower Deck. At that time she was still wearing her original nose. George tried to chum up to her by giving her his “White” name tally - Cilla was born Priscilla White - which left George with a grave problem trying to get a replacement before Joe should notice that his helicopter pilot was unlabelled.

One of Joe’s innovations was name badges for all and several hundred were ordered in Bexoid with different colour combinations for different branches. All Officers were issued with a safety-pin badge with white lettering cut out of black except for Joe who had red lettering. There were recurrent crises for those who lost their badges except for the Officer who had organised this for Joe, who had prudently ordered spares for himself, and, as I saw in the box of leftovers, there were several spare “Bartosiks”.
