Land-use is the most powerful tool a city has to address:
climate crisis
housing crisis
social inequality
fiscal stability
None of these changes should have been brought forward at all and the timing is highly suspect. And reintroducing uncertainty when we finally had regulations that made sense (and that this Council adopted) is a big middle finger to the housing crisis, those who build homes and those who need them.

Please please please everyone take two minutes email your councillor right now and get everyone you know to do so as well. If you've already done it, then do it again. 👇

No they would prefer to personally review every infill. Period.

It just undermines its credibility. It's a trap to fall into that has real effects on real people's lives. If this worked, we'd still have a carbon tax. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

It seems more like a few councillors are trying to appease some NIMBY's, hoping to get re-elected, instead of doing what they should know is the right thing.

ZBR is working. Cost of living is growing less here than elsewhere, and they will undermine it for people that still won't vote for them.

This self-centered and cynical move doesn't just appease his supporters. It gives fuel to the most reactionary & regressive elements across the political spectrum & across the City. It could be truly devastating and will also play into Danielle Smith's hands. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It makes me feel ill.

What really disturbs me is that this makes it easy in the election to weaponize how Councillors vote regardless of outcome. Councillors who make the responsible decision to support the existing regulations risk being targeted by these people. And I don't wish that on anyone. #yegcc

He owes them. Wishhy-washy throughout the term while claiming to be a real @strongtowns.org advocate he needs a NIMBy win. No coincidence this comes to one of last public hearings before election. Undermines one of the most progressive regulations in the bylaw (that this Council adopted).

Majority live in papastew & were motivated to publicly, financially, support Janz in 2021 directly *because* of my position & record on land-use. Telling people what they want to hear (on both sides) is a great way to get elected, but a shitty way to govern.

I don't think it's to save 20001. It's to appease those who really only care about infill and "protecting" low density single family (expensive) housing in their neighbourhoods (mostly Belgravia, some Glenora). They are vocal, organized & have $, time & political capital.
