Happy Birthday! Here’s to another year in chastity, eh tiger?

I dream of a society of carers and helpers, not parasites and cowards. Of a country that helps everybody, because we can afford to do so. Where everyone is finally free to pursue happiness, fulfillment, growth, and love. A society of accountability for all, not just the poor.

I have a dream of a world where I don’t have to study paperwork and contracts just to receive basic medical care. Where I can live where I desire, rather than optimize for survival. Where my friends don’t go hungry, lack shelter, or get attacked for merely existing.

You know what my dream is? My “American Dream”?

To be able to work a good job, for good pay, that leaves me more time with my friends, family, and community than it does keeping me in an office slaving away for shareholder value.

Admittedly, part of that fatigue comes from a place of, “others have it worse than you, and thus you’re expected to fight harder on their behalf.” That’s an attitude I want more leaders to have, and it’s why times like these leave me so drained:

Because we have no leaders, only politicians.

And so I shout into the void of social media, begging for anyone in a position of power to listen, knowing they won’t.

We’re dying out here, and you lot don’t seem to give a fuck beyond your personal stock portfolios and re-election campaigns.

You’re not leaders; you’re political hacks.

The staunch refusal to consult anyone but industry lobbyists for technology policies puts my career at risk, along with the safety and security of not just my fellow Americans, but my fellow human beings in general. All of this, I could talk at length about - but none of you care to listen.

The Congressional failure to mandate basic human protections for queer people leaves us homeless, jobless, and dead at higher rates than non-queer peers. The lack of affordable healthcare outside my current state (which pioneered the ACA model) excludes my ability to live in cheaper areas.

I’d love to explain to @schumer.senate.gov and @durbin.senate.gov that defunding American healthcare or refusing to protect queer rights is why I can only feasibly survive in three states. Not live, not accomplish the American Dream, but *merely survive*.

I just really want you two to understand the calculus here: you STARVED PEOPLE on the premise that you didn’t want to defund healthcare, and yet you DEFUNDED HEALTHCARE ANYWAY. You did more harm than if you had just rolled over and done NOTHING AT ALL.

Shameful cowards, both of you.

Maybe I’m reading too much meta-narrative into personal activities and decisions, but I can’t help but feel that the embracing of diapers, “little” fashion and styling, simpler lifestyles and activities, of continued nurture into adulthood are all rejecting societal contract foundations.

Heck yeah!
