Love. She had no idea how she was going to battle darkness with love. In all of the stories about good and evil and battles that she had ever read, no one ever won solely by wielding love. Now that she thought about it, if love was a theme in any of those stories it usually was the cause of conflict, not a battle tactic. Usually, victory came at the end of a sword or some other tool of violence, taken with brute force or by superior strategy. Fights weren’t won with love. They were won with sticks and stones, guns, and bombs, fought with skill, cunning, and bravery. But she had to admit, she had no idea how to fight an evil spirit and assumed all of those things would probably be useless. How was she supposed to overpower the equivalent of a demon with love of all things? Not a bible, not holy water, not an exorcism, but soft, sparkling, unconditional love.

Drafted Chapter 22 today and am a little (ok, a lot) in love with it.

I wanted to hate this photo. That’s not my face. Surely, it’s my grandmother’s face I’m staring at. But I realized, this face, is my now. It’s my future. And I’ve earned every one of those lines. They’ve shaped me inside and out. And I adored my grandmother. In some ways, it’s nice to see her again.
