The right for autistic people with intellectual disabilities (and other disabled people) to live outside of institutions was only granted by the US Supreme Court in 1999.
Perioidic reminder that the reason you didn't see autistic people with intellectual disabilities on the street five decades ago was not because they didn't exist. It's because they were sent away to institutions and their parents were told to put away pictures of them.

Do I understand this right? He had a Representative thrown out for booing a speech where he said, "Free speech is back?"

Did this actually happen?

As I know from writing Proof of Cruelty, Donald Trump gets an obvious thrill in describing the rape and murder of women, so he has exercised that rhetorical muscle repeatedly tonight

Because if this night is about anything at all (and it may not be), it is about Donald Trump taking a victory lap

This is the wierdest thing I could write but I have mad respect for Michelle Obama and Karen Pence right now.

They are being true to themselves. More of this please.

I wrote a little thing about why you should spend this holiday with your Trump lovin' Uncle Bob (or your devoutly liberal cousin Judy) and why connection matters. Shout out to @podsaveamerica.bsky.social + @MGPforCongress for the inspo.

Another great post from @kiminthewest.bsky.social.
This resonates in many ways as I reflect on groups & gatherings I used to host & attend, traditions passed & transformed & friends who have traveled through chapters and those who remain, both familiar and evolved.

Also: it assumes that I'm online because I have to be; that I've a civic responsibility to expose myself to bad-faith arguments, name-calling and willful ignorance. I don't; I really don't. I'm just here for the ideas and, really, the diminishing quantity ot dopamine
The problem with pieces like this, which are countless, is the prevailing media assumption that left-of-center Americans need constant corrective instruction about how to be in and engage with the world, whereas right-of-center Americans are simply to be observed in awe, like rainbows or mountains.
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

My pal @kiminthewest.bsky.social Stacks some Sub this week on the topic of post-pandemic sociability fatigue, loneliness, and leaning into your agoraphobia as you age -- fewer freestyle dinner parties, more time with select friends and fam. (Includes research.)

There hasn't been a crime against women for them to react to. They are "afraid" that transwomen might hurt women in bathrooms.

I'd prefer my daughters have to pee around a transwoman, than be clothed in a room with Gaetz, Trump or Hegseth, who actually have hurt women.

How is this a position?

Listening to true crime while prepping dinner. I've decided that if one of my friends doesn't return my texts, I'm probably not the one who will call the police. I'd be more like, "They are just busy. Stop stalking her, she'll call when she gets a chance." While my friend bleeds out on the floor.

Yes. We know this is all probably true.

But we pretty much accept that men do this + bc men in power often do this, even w/kids, we have to assume that this w/not be a deal breaker bc we simply do not care that men do this kind of awful shit to women/children all the time.

There. I said it.

So I might be having a rheumatoid arthititis flare up. And in pursuit of some pain relief, I had my husband get me a topical tylenol cream.

I just used it and I now officially smell like old people.

There is a real push to have #PlannedParenthood defunded in the next admin.

My adult daughter was able to get an expensive birth control injection for $20 because of taxpayer subsidy. She is not in a position to be a parent, and that shot is going to prevent an abortion.

PP must be saved.

Whenever anyone tries to tell you Trump won in a “landslide” or has a “mandate,” tell them that Trump has the slimmest popular vote margin since Nixon in 1968, and votes are still being counted.
Donald Trump is now (1) below 50% popular vote and (2) has a margin of popular vote victory roughly HALF of Hillary's victory in 2016. They believe the left has to lay down and shut up because of this "landslide" victory.
