I made this pottery bowl on the wheel, then hand carved the floral design on it. Sadly my drippy glaze dripped too far and covered more of the carving that I hoped for, but that’s pottery! I have my first sale coming up on Nov 8 at the Bradley Centre in Coombs!

I haven’t completed many embroideries lately, but I did this portrait of our dog Rosie recently. I hand drew the pattern, then hand stitched her in this happy sitting position in an oval frame.

The forest fires are so terrible. The devastation to the forests, the fear and unknowing of evacuees, the dangerous work and long hours of the responders, and the smoke! On mid Vancouver Island we now have our second out of control fire in such a short order. This can’t be our new normal.

The glazing on this vase didn’t turn out as expected, and it was my first time carving on a collared in piece where I couldn’t feel the inside while carving, so it was kind of scary!! No mishaps thankfully.

A little pottery cup I made, with a hand carved relief sleeping fox. This was a new studio grey celadon glaze. I really like the smooth, rounded, footless bottom I made (for the first time).

A smaller, rounded, shiny grey cup, on a silver engraved tray, with a white background. On the front of the cup is carved a sleeping fox, in relief. The fox was hand drawn on the cup after it was thrown on the wheel and trimmed, then hand carved in bas relief. You can just see the little sliver of white clay along the bottom of the cup where it rests on the tray as this is a footless cup, with a smooth, rounded bottom.

She worked out!! I’m so thrilled with how my rainbow bowl turned out after its clear glaze and final firing!! The underglaze is nice and vibrant and clean, and no cracks! (I can have bad luck with my bowls sometimes). This took over 10 hours to decorate.

Rosie! Our beautiful Aussie Bernedoodle. I carved a portrait of her in this lidded pot I threw. The lid fits but looks a bit ridiculous; it was my first ever attempt. It was fun carving this of our sweet Rosie bc she is such a loving, gentle, fun, intuitive member of our family.

This is my favourite piece from this last kiln batch. Where our toilet is located in our ensuite, it’s impossible to wall mount a toilet paper holder. So I made this! Hand built, then hand carved You’re the Shit, and underglazed the flowers etc, finished with a clear glaze. Super happy!

In the Courtenay-Alberni riding, voting NDP is the best way to block the conservatives. Also, Gord Johns is a hard working, inclusive MP who does a lot for our communities. He takes action. Let’s help get him re-elected, and not split the vote.

They’re in it for themselves and their bank accounts and their rich friends in Canada and south of the border (Trump lovers). Canadians are better than this. We are a diverse country of caring people who want to continue to improve, not go backwards.
