🚨new paper! We investigated emotional reactions before/after "doom and gloom" styled emotional messaging globally. One of my favorite results is how consistent emotional reactions are across all the globe (black dots = pre-intervention, grey=post)

Let's look at how well interventions stimulated the tree behaviour in Austria and Germany. We can see that the Reducing Psychological Distance intervention had a HUGE impact in Austria (>30% increase; N=32) but backfired in Germany (>11% decrease; N=121)!

But what about the interventions? Well, they had pretty small effects across all outcome variables.

Climate change belief is at 85.6%, and policy support is at 72.2% INTERNATIONALLY. However, 56.9% of people were willing to post climate change info on social media, and people engaged in 65% of the max. on an effortful tree-planting behaviour. (Can you find your country?)

Intervention efficacy also depended on individual levels of climate change belief! This suggests that interventions need to be tailored according to the characteristics of the population!

We demonstrated that no intervention worked equally well across our different outcome variables! This suggests that interventions need to be tailored to the variable they are targeting!

Across nearly 60k participants, we showed that climate change belief and support for climate policies is incredibly high (86% and 72%, respectively)!

🚨We have a new perspective out today in @natureclimate called “Leveraging neuroscience for climate change research” shorturl.at/dyN35 where we call on #Neuroskyence researchers to help combat #climatechange 🧠
