Leopard seal creature and its catch from a while back 🐟

Made this right after Jon Kuo's creature class, which was worth every penny. Can't recommend it enough, it really helped me get a better grasp on anatomy in 3D space!

Minimal editing here - just a moth cocoon, a Playmobil set and entirely too much time on my hands 🫡

A nice thing about keeping animals is all the neat poses they do that worm their way into your brain and end up in your art.

A few years back, I was asked to design a sidekick creature for the main characters of an animation pitch.

We ended up deciding on this adorable little bioluminescent salamander with a hidden third eye 👁️

Herbivore anatomy homework for Jon Kuo's creature class 🌿🐗

I'm so glad I signed up, it's been neat getting to refresh my knowledge and doodle some critters for a change!

In addition to the class being absolutely wonderful to teach, I'm elated that we were able to put my pay for the talk towards purchasing some Terryl Whitlatch books for the class library.

They inspired my career and I'm hoping they will do the same for these kids :)

Without further ado, here are the results!

Creature 1 - Avian: Uses sacs of bioluminescent bacteria on its wings to lure in prey, then snatches it out of the air with its wide mouth and long neck

Before the talk, I wrote up some creature briefs and asked the class to pick one.

"A creature that lives in pitch black caves and lures its prey using light" received the most votes - fun!

Excited to share these - I recently had the pleasure of giving a creature design talk to @goodmutt.bsky.social 's class at MCG Youth in Pittsburgh (thank you Ashley)!
