A small tribute to dad halloween night since he used to do far grander in the past;

The old plastic pumpkin on the porch in tandem with my boombox playing sleerie/spooky tunes from my old ipod.

Wouldn't mind trying to go bigger next year, if we still get some kiddies visiting the door.

Bless sis; I had regretted passing on a trio of $5 butternut saplings at Canadian Tire and she nabbed me the last remaining sapling a few days later.

Still not sure where would be best to plant it with limited options but it's too valuable to pass up.

Getting to finally crack at handling some plants again but have hit a bit of a mystery-

Both my wahoo and Nannyberry seedlings kind of halted germination and growth for several months now under growlights- is it temperature? And is it too late before winter to coax them to grow further? Opinions?

Planters of plants as memorial gifts are nice until you the one recieving them realize you don't have the spare potting soil to split apart the incompatible plant combos from each other ._.

If we get more blooms from these sunchokes before the autumn frost and cold snaps them down I'll actually be surprised, I really should've planted/potted them earlier in the growing season.

Today was a rough Saturday, but for her it was a chill Caturday

Hadn't really mentioned it here but my dad passed away to a farm accident on Monday. Doing what I can to keep the farm together and manage but I'm definitely not doing too hot.

Made a bouquet on the day cause I was compelled to after the shock.

I might become more aloof in my online activities

I removed all the starting honecrisp apple fruit earlier this year half to reduce weight stress on such a small tree and so it could better try to recover from rabbit winter girdling.

I however missed one single apple. Not huge one for size, its got minor scuffing, but man it was tasty 😋

Uncle needed some flowers for his bouquet entries for the autumn Fair.

Lucky for him some of my botanical stock has some real lookers.

Uncle needed some cattails for one of his Autumn Fair bouqet entries so I thought I'd cut some leaves while in the ditch;

Been wanting to try some handsy crafts so why not dry some for some weaving craft? Not sure what I'll weave but that's future Gato's problem

Hope they'll dry properly 😨

Everytime I say "I don't like hybrid teas roses, they are high maintenance and fussy/weak af" I feel THIS particular rose flip the bird at me by being a contradiction; growing in a garden that's been taken over by grass and weeds, shooting up growth despite the lack of rejuvenation pruning this year

Against my better judgment I bought a Hoya retusa & fishbone cactus from the fb marketplace.

$12 well spent?

Not sure these spots are gonna work since my bedroom is fairly dark but we'll see how they fare.

Late July I was able to catch photos of the Senna hebecarpa blooms in the weedy gardens in spite of irl chaos.

If new England Asters are my favourite autumn flower then I gotta say the Senna is growing to be a favourite summer flower of mine. Always is an absolute bee magnet 🐝

In spite of the annoyance of them falling over on windy days, I am glad I decided to container-grow the sunchokes (Helianthus tuberosus) tubers I was gifted this spring;

Their vigor is fairly frightening! With autumn here I hope I can see them bloom before frost.

Lo, #Kayla and #Terra OC Slice of Life sloppy comic be upon ye!

Inspired by true events. I really wanted to draw this cause it's rare treat to see Terra vulnerable when she normally she can keep it together.

She jumped off the top of the bookshelf and landed hard on my chest in the middle of the night...

Tbf to her I'm not normally on that side of the bed but still, ouchie.

Another unfamiliar-to-me wildflower at the Pinery Provincial Park- knew it was a sunflower but wasn't sure the species.

Sessile leaves and a smooth stem in a woodland setting? Woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus) without a doubt.

Pretty but much more gracile than I would've expected 🤔 🌱

I went Pinery Provincial Park for a lake dip which was welcomed.

There were wildflowers I recognized but there were a handful of unfamiliar ones like this one.

My gut said that it had to be a Euphorbia and lo and behold I was right;

Prairie Baby's Breath or Flowering Spurge, Euphorbia corollata 🌱

It's not the most flattering photos of my floppy ironweed but I still wanted to share the rich purple.

Ironic that it's been so well behaved in the garden in spite of the Weed in it's name. 🌱

And for the crime of botanical hostile takeover, they get expiriated from the garden.

It's a miracle anything else was still alive under all that. Maybe I'll grow Grayheaded coneflower again in the future- if it's alone on a lawn island or something.
August 20, 2025 at 6:39 PM
🌱 "These gray headed coneflowers are nice! Why would you get rid of them?"

"They took over the gardenbed and are shading/choking out all the other plants"

"Oh"

I'm a sucker for the streaked/striped Zins 🌱

The bouqet and bouquet photo was made/done by my sis

Twisted my ankle due to a groundhog hole while fencing, but I got to see an unfamiliar wildflower growing in the ditch along the way.

🤔 first thought thistle or veronia but none amongst well-known ontarian wildflora match these fellas here.

Any ideas?
