📽️ 198/ The Running Man 🍿

So weird to see your hometown on the big screen being used to depict a dystopian future! 😄

Wembley Park stood in for the exteriors and entrance of the TV Network building, so it was a little distracting to keep spotting intimately familiar locations.

So the weakest Edgar Wright movie is still pretty frickin' good. Does a great job of honouring, and updating, the original but struggles with the ending because of obvious parallels to real life event...

It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...
London's giant AI artwork to be torn down
The bizarre story of why a much-talked-about creation is being torn down. Plus: Docklands Light Railway extension, giant laser stalks the night sky, and more tales of Android phone theft rejection.

Calvin & Hobbes turns 40 today, apparently. I genuinely don't think there's been a better comic strip before or since this came out. I have the full collection and it's due a re-read. Just joyful, artistic, funny, thoughtful and timeless. Watterson is the GOAT

This looks stunning in HDR. The lighting throughout the movie is spectacular.

I had put Mia Goth's strange accent down to being a Yank imitating a Brit but it turns out she is actually from the UK 🤷‍♂️
A ★★★★½ review of Frankenstein (2025)
Sumptuous visuals, although I have to ask if the monster was deliberately styled like the engineer in Prometheus. The pace felt out of balance, spending a lttle too long on Oscar Isaac and not enough ...

In 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master' Freddy Krueger is resurrected by a dog pissing on his remains and I don't see why that wouldn't work perfectly well here.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

All the Bonds are Bond and they should never attempt to justify or explain why they are different.
I'm onboard for denying the pseudonym in favour of refusing to acknowledge the existence of the other timelines and any & all potholes that occur from referencing earlier events.

They are all the same guy but also have no connection to each other in anyway.

The Bond franchise is now officially a roguelike
James Bond should die at the end of every movie and each new movie should begin with the new actor walking by the old one's corpse, making some clever remark, and carrying on with the movie.

Bollocks.

The Bond franchise has repeatedly proven that you just stick another handsome guy in a tuxedo, have him order a martini and introduce himself to the nearest femme fatale.

Job done.

When the real world is weirder than Ari Aster's surreal satirical western you know things are fucked up. Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone are great but Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler are wasted.

I missed this in IMAX so without its selling point I had not felt the urge to watch it at home. With a new TV and surround sound I figured it was now worth a try.

No doubt less impactful than on a big screen but still well worth watching.
