The police exist to protect property, not people.
This post from @alexnpress.bsky.social is just too on the nose of how law enforcement is used and implemented to protect the capital of the obscenely rich.

And let's not forget that Chenjerai was hired to teach *journalism* at NYU, because he is an award-winning broadcaster. For doing the thing he was hired to teach, he is now being being declared "PNG" at NYU. Wild stuff.
NYU Campus Security and Administration is totally out of control.

On Wednesday - I filmed a peaceful protest in Bobst library for two hours.

Yesterday at 2pm while at home,
I received an email explaining that I’ve been designated “persona non grata” and banned from several buildings on campus.

Applications open January 15th, and we especially encourage applications from folks at SLACs, PUIs, HBCUs, and/or tribal colleges; graduate students and postdocs from marginalized backgrounds; and anyone who works on topics in the local Universe that have implications for early galaxy evolution.

Update on the bathroom ban in Ohio. OSU astronomy has moved forward with the construction of a single-occupancy restroom in our building (none exist currently), and we have secured the $$ and contractor who will begin the work thanks to several OSU faculty.
1. Today, Governor DeWine has signed one of the most oppressive bathroom bans in the United States.

The transgender bathroom ban applies to colleges and universities, including private colleges!

It comes as the US has been gripped by Republican bathroom panic.
