Had a terrible experience on my evening walk tonight: attacked by a stray pit bull! Got a couple of bites on my forearm but my layers protected my skin. Fought it off enough that I thought that I could get away when a SECOND dog ran up and joined in.

Went on Facebook today (my mom uses it) and saw an easy Portland history question that was answered very incorrectly by someone using ChatGPT. If you have an “olde” (pre-1931) address, use my site, PastPortland.com, instead of the fabrication machine! Local historians have correct answers!

Luv to have a military helicopter fly really low directly above our apartment building! It was a tan color - I don't think I've seen that one yet.

“Angelita Morillo proposed an amendment reallocating money from a city sweeps program, instead funding housing and food assistance, support for immigrants.”
Portland City Council will consider an amendment next week to redirect $4.3 million from the city program that sweeps homeless encampments. If passed, the budget adjustment will instead invest $2 million in rent and food assistance, and support for immigrants and refugees.

Was doing some paper crafting and coming up with designs is a lot like web programming except you have physical versions of all your past failures leading up to the current build (which also failed).

At the protest I saw a handful of signs that were made with generative AI, which was pretty disappointing. Come on you guys, that's a fascist tool! Other than that it was a good time!

If you’re not in Portland, you probably think of the fun & whimsical protests. That’s great! Fuck ICE. But we also have military helicopters flying over town from sundown into late in the night. They are a constant, awful presence. The Trump administration is trying to intimidate us and it sucks.

I love Portland Frog but the presence of multiple Portland Frogs makes me worry that it turns into a Riot Ribs sort of situation.

There was this common illustration style in the late 80s & early 90s that could be most charitably described as “newspaper comic strip inker’s 15-minute side gig”.

He said this deliberately because he is a Nazi and he wants you to know he's a Nazi who you can't touch. He also wants other Nazis to know they can be open about the fact they are Nazis too.

This isn't an oversight, a fumble or an opportunity for a "heh, well actually, dummy" zinger.

Wild idea. I think consumers should be able to opt out of sharing an electric grid with data centers. I had the choice to pay a little extra on my bill to use clean energy years ago. I opted in, and the difference was minimal. Yet I wasn't given any choice about propping up a water guzzling Ai mill

Reading this article this morning reminded me of a time back in 2017 when I asked a friend how things were going with his new girlfriend and he said, "Oh, I had break up with her. She's friends with Andy Ngo."

Even if you didn’t notice the merged books in the pile, something about the image seems “off” to you, right? It always does with AI and AI “artists” because they can’t replicate creating something by hand. 1/3

This week I turned 50, America tipped into fascism, the corporation I work for did a massive round of layoffs that hit a ton of colleagues, and today I’m learning that we may need to leave the apartment we’ve lived in for 17 years. Things are going great!!!
