This whole system is so much more transparent and distributes decision-making power so much more effectively. 🤯 I can host where I please, and something like community caches are now a commodity that can be transparent and competitive, like Fastly or any other traffic management tool.

I'm still reading through the comments so sorry if this is a repeat, but I'd love to better understand the funding/cost model that goes along with this. Aren't these social apps still bearing the cost of hosting this data? And if a social platform goes down, doesn't the actual data go down with it?

Yeah that's a surprising take to me too. It seems like a very personal decision and depends on your life situation and preferred work style. I'm mid-career and have considered both as next steps.
