Super Green councillor catch-up this week with some of our new party members - at Shipley’s wonderful Dandelion cafe!

West Yorkshire needs an extended tram network - it’s time to scale up our ambitions to match the cities and regions of Europe! @wyneedsatram.bsky.social

Out delivering our latest blockbuster Green read around Shipley in beautiful autumnal sunshine - what’s not to like?! 💚

Very happy to be helping at the school street by Shipley CE this morning - have just had a word with a taxi driver who decided to cut through!

Another super Green councillor street surgery, this weekend in Saltaire with Cllr Anna Watson. Great to see everyone for a chat about local concerns ahead of the rain showers!

This is great news. Bradford Council has significantly cut pesticide use in Shipley’s parks and green spaces in response to pressure from the Green councillors, but national legislation is required as well!
More councils are taking action to curb pesticide use on parks, playgrounds, pavements, and housing estates, but legislation is still needed!

My Bill (2nd reading soon) would introduce a national phase-out of pesticide use in public spaces by local authorities.

Half of UK councils still use pesticides in public places, research finds
Pesticide-free movement has grown, but many local authorities still spray weedkiller linked to wildlife declines and cancer

Every day that our government fails to recognise the state of Palestine is another day wasted on more empty words instead of actions.

What is Keir Starmer waiting for? Recognise Palestine.

Great to see LBIA has lost its appeal against night flight limits - an issue I raised as recently as 2023 in a full Council meeting in Bradford: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Leeds Bradford Airport loses appeal over night-time flights limit
Leeds Bradford Airport had wanted to alter what flights counted towards its limit to avoid breaches.

🚨 Labour are once again planning to cut school bus services in #Bradford.

🗣 Cllr @kevinwarnes.bsky.social said, “It is critical that we maintain and expand our bus travel networks. Cuts are not an option. The withdrawal of any of these services is simply not acceptable.”

Not sure that we’ll sort the climate emergency or dig Bradford Council out of bankruptcy, but I’ll see if I can get these cycle staples in Hirst Wood fixed. 👍

My short speech at this week’s Bradford Council meeting in which I laid out several of the many, many, many reasons why the Labour government should scrap the heartless two child benefit cap - my bit starts 3 hrs 32 mins into our marathon meeting - bradford.public-i.tv/core/portal/...

Good old @privateeyenews.bsky.social Always on the money.

Bradford Council’s meeting rolls on this evening. We’ve just called on the government to scrap the two child benefit cap. I was going to sit quietly but felt the need to speak up against this deeply unjust policy - brought in by the Conservatives yet kept in place by Starmer’s Labour government.

I put a Member Question to the Leader of Council at today’s full meeting in Bradford about the terrible state of Shipley’s Station Road. As a result, I’ve secured a commitment from the portfolio holder to consider including this key gateway to Shipley in our town centre’s cleansing schedule.

Nothing like a spot of guerilla gardening to work up an appetite for lunch. This massive overgrowth has obstructed a busy pedestrian route in Shipley for weeks. The owner doesn’t care. It would have taken our dysfunctional council years - literally - to sort. Took me 20 mins. Job done.

Joined fellow Green Cllr Anna Watson and Living Streets leaders Philippa and Pete for a sun-soaked community speedwatch on Caroline Street, Saltaire, this evening. Gathered plenty of traffic data (top speed = 33mph) and got great support from residents!

Great to see the new Residents Only parking bays up and running on Hirst Lane. They’ll ease the parking pressures there and hopefully encourage more parents to walk their children to the nearby nursery and primary school rather than drive.

At last! Great to see the new defibrillator installed by the play area in Hirst Wood. It took a while, but we got there in the end.

Another super Shipley street surgery this morning, with Cllr Anna Watson, this time on Hirst Wood Rd and Grange Av. Many thanks as always to residents for your time and feedback! Nice to see the bus running on time too - a service that we helped to save a few years ago!

I’ve just handed over the chair of the Shipley Area Committee to the Cllr Marcus Dearden.

Welcome back Marcus!

In Nov, Marcus will pass the baton to Cllr Paul Sullivan, with myself as deputy chair throughout the year.

A super example of cross-party cooperation in the interest of our residents!
