If it were me, I'd strip a 3/4" section of insulation about 2" before the end, put that under one screw, then strip the last 1/2" of the wire and put it under the other screw. Then it's a continuous conductor. Like this:

I'm not sure it's inherently unsafe, if a 14 ga wire can get power from the panel to the outlet, I don't see how it can't go another inch to the other half of the receptacle. Local code and/or the inspector may disagree though.

The principles may be the same, but precisely how Russia is doing this is what I'm interested in - I don't expect this is merely a miniaturized version, especially if they've actually found a way to make a heat exchanger that doesn't freely leak fallout.

As horrific as the development for this thing has been..and as terrible as it's intended use case would be, I can't suppress the engineer's curiosity wondering how the thing actually works.
