If it were me, I'd strip a 3/4" section of insulation about 2" before the end, put that under one screw, then strip the last 1/2" of the wire and put it under the other screw. Then it's a continuous conductor. Like this:

I guess you've never heard of the term "bottleneck" before, you should check it out sometime.
