In the past I've used the DALEX explain_tidymodels / model_parts as well (mainly from www.tmwr.org/explain).
From my (very limited) usage thus far of these new tidymodels packages, I'd say the biggest benefit is the easy tie in with feature selection recipe steps.
Certainly no need to change.

With bigrquerystorage downloaded it's about twice as slow for me (21.53 sec vs 10.83 sec)

I took a python class in the fall at my university which taught pandas. As a fervent R user, I hated it and started learning polars. At end of the course, I was talking with the professor about switching to Polars. Unfortunately, in 2025, I agree that you can’t teach just polars in an intro course.
