Ground beef in 1/2 price bin. Cheese on sale. Corn tortillas for 99c.

This will make 12 meals.

I love the twists and turns in this Yelp review

Sure, the Ross Douthat thing is bad but the worst thing in the NYT today is a recipe for “baked kale rice”

No idea why I’m liking this so much

I’m reading John Tottenham’s novel “Service” and am amused at the narrator, a sort of Ignatius Reilly working in an Echo Park used bookstore

James Carville needed some attention today

I can assure you that a five-hour hagiography of St. Martin of Scorsese is quite enough, than you

Hmm. Last we heard WDSU chief meteorologist Devon Lucie was on leave while the station investigated DV charges. Now he’s gone from the station website with no update.

Anyone looked into this?

Final night in London. (I didn’t spend all my time in pubs; they were just the most convenient places to get a meal without having to go through the “just one?” ordeal followed by a scan of the restaurant for the worst table.) Had a brilliant time.

One thing I’ve enjoyed in London is just taking a train or the Tube to a neighborhood, getting off, and just walking around. Stopped in this charming local where the juke has played Siouxsie, the Buzzcocks, and Grandmaster Flash. Where to find a bite? We’ll see.

A very nice Irishman in Edinburgh recommended this out-of-the-way pub in London.

In the States the name would indicate a very different sort of establishment

Impressed how Old Town Edinburgh has kept its neighborhood identity. This must be what the French Quarter was like when it wasn’t geared to tourists. Nothing like the Royal Mile or Newtown.

Just a photo on the wall.

A storied, quiet, literary respite off a busy area in downtown Edinburgh. Wish I’d found it earlier.

There now.

Lunch in the hills of Scotland on the River Tay.

So in addition to my caps I also enjoy pipes from time to time when the weather is conducive, which is rare. Edinburgh is the perfect town for a pipe while strolling the streets.

I brought my Dunhill estate (I could never afford a new one) and found a proper Scottish tobacconist on a side st.

I like a proper cap (not a baseball cap) and have some nice ones.

Edinburgh is the perfect city to break out my khaki waxed motorcycle cap while enjoying a pint. Tonight it will be my Meyer the Hatter imported pub cap.

This Scottish pub preempts the question “What can’t I get in the States?”

Hard to disagree.

Old Town Edinburgh feels like a mashup of the CBD and French Quarter — lo-rise nondescript office-y buildings next to worn old original structures. It feels like you could round this curve and suddenly be on Burgundy Street.

Haggis burger in Old Town Edinburgh. And it is DELICIOUS.

On the train.

Just passed Fishface and desperately wanted to stop and explore Fishface.

London outpost of “The Big Easy” where the speciality is lobster and prosecco. Now that’s Nat’rlly N’awlins, dawlin’

A few snaps of touring London with my chic friends Anne-Kathrin and Knut: Thames quay pints on a sunny day; a moody back alley in Soho with a pub for quiet aging rockers. Also took a 40-minute boat ride on the Thames and never left central London.

Just realized I’ve been in London three whole days and despite the traffic seen nary a pickup truck nor SUV.

Anyway, London is pretty and today was gorgeous and everyone was out being happy and I had a pint at this lovely place near London Bridge.
