“Separation of powers” is grossly misused in commentary to mean “my desired limits on whatever branch is controlled by other than my preferred political party.” In Federalist 47 it actually means legislative and executive roles are distinct and must not be allowed to directly dominate one another.

Effective politics needs a story. That means a hero, a victim, and some villains. The slogan “strong floor, no ceiling“ sounds like the final line of a half-hearted Craigslist post.
Just hear me out: maybe the Democratic Party’s problem is that the party leadership is full of people incapable of realizing that Matt Yglesias has terrible political instincts.
