I wasn't expecting to get as emotional as I did at the first notes of music for The Princess Bride at the MN orchestra.

Once again reading Ursula K Le Guin blog posts and once again needed to share each and every one.
Ursula K. Le Guin — 82. Belief in Belief
February 2014 You can buy rocks in which are carved words intended to be inspiring—LOVE, HOPE, DREAM, etc. Some have the word BELIEVE. They puzzle me. Is belief a virtue? Is it desirable in itself? ...

All of the pie talk has solidified my need to make a pumpkin cheesecake pie.

Recipe PSA: the recipes on packaging are the most tested recipes on the planet.
And finally pie #3. This one is just the classic pumpkin, and the recipe is the one printed on the Libby’s can! This one was last because there is basically nothing that can go wrong with it.

The Best Part of Thanksgiving, Bones and All
The menu is malleable, the gratitudes negotiable, but the turkey’s second life as stock is one of the greatest gifts of the entire blessed year.

Pretty much anything that looks like a super good deal this weekend is going to be a low quality slop item
Pre-black Friday reminder, a ton of the tech you can get for super cheap has downgraded internal components, or are slightly worse versions of normal models.

Just don't buy it! You deserve better!

I don't understand the men who feel lost in their identity, like they don't know who to be, like they don't know how to find love.

There's a whole manual that tells you. It's called Lord of the Rings. Just be Samwise Gamgee.

They even made movies about Sam. They're pretty good movies.

I was at the protest today: SPPD was on site when I got there, but their numbers continued to swell. The crowd was loud af but not at all violent- nor were they impeding agents "doing their jobs" or residents. SPPD was in good spirits- many were smiling and laughing. The protesters were told to +

She sees your fandom as affirmation, your money as funding for the harm she causes to trans people.

It doesn't matter how you feel about her work, whether it was a formative touchstone or not. If you still buy the merch or hype up Harry Potter, you are complicit.
Hey yall not what I wanted to do on my birthday but let it be clear

"Death of the artist" is all well & good but you cannot Seperate the art from the artist when the artist is still alive, a terf & every penny they recieve reinforces their beliefs & is used to actively harm Trans folks!

Look at me, I am the parent now (if you need it). You absolutely do not have spend holidays with people who hurt you and the quoted thread has some notes for you.
As we are now T minus 3.5 days from Thanksgiving, if you need to deploy Operation Avoid The Boundary Tramplers, tonight is when you post where they snoop about a headache or a queasy kid, or a funny noise from your car, or your pet acting strange, or a serious work issue or an unexpected paper.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

"Death of the artist" means when Amy Tan says "I did not intentionally put numerological symbolism in Joy Luck Club" you can go "ok but unconscious-you is very clever and it's in there anyhow."

It does not mean "it doesn't matter if JKR is a terrible person."

It's telling that one of the letters in MyVillager complaing about the Summit bike path mentions e-bikes speed - not as a concern for other riders on a bike path but as 'these unregulated vehicles... racing down a new separated strip of asphalt in front of their homes'.

Your yearly reminder that “holiday” celebrations that only include Christian traditions are not, in fact, inclusive even if you don’t use the word Christmas, so tbh I’d rather you just say it’s Christmas.
Until a few years ago, ugly holiday sweaters didn’t exist. They’re ugly Christmas sweaters, with some generic Jewish iconography to be “inclusive.” But the truth is, when I have to buy one to wear to a work party, I feel like I’m in another culture’s drag.

Have been watching some lecturers on Frankenstein and it's (Minnesota) interesting how many people refer to Victor as a Scientist when he was a student who didn't even finish his schooling.
I think my winter project is going to be watch/read a bunch of Frankenstein adaptations.

Anyone planning a Lord of the Rings marathon day with a themed menu? What are your ideas for it?

I think I'm going to do a charcuterie board for each movie with a soup/stew as a main dish in the afternoon.

Hey Science people 🧪, anyone know if there have there been papers written or studies done on the effect of non-stop christmas pop music to people? I certainly feel like I'm still recovering from 10 years of of working retail
If we had to hear “Baby Shark” everywhere we went for two whole months out of the year we’d throw a fit, right?

And rightfully so.

So tell me, why do we put up with it when the song is “Frosty the Snowman”?
