Isn't it amazing that IL was never limiting aid entry, never deliberately inducing hunger/starvation, or denying medical supplies so medical care couldn't function, no drugs, anesthesia/analgesia, proper sterilization; yet when there's a ceasefire Israel can suddenly "allow" 600 trucks/day to enter?

Haaretz wrote Hebrew-only article re IDF soldiers with PTSD from Gaza combat experiences. Various awful testimonies, including this from a sniper who daily served at GHF aid sites, w job to shoot any of the desperate unarmed people who crossed an invisible line.

A $ doesn't go very far, unfortunately: money has to first go through money changers who take a significant %, then it has to buy food on the market at wildly inflated prices. But it seems to be the only way to help other than pushing gov'ts to change. I attach a FAQ from the baby formula group.

Invaluable xitter thread on famine momentum, famine response and the current disastrous state of Gaza from Jeremy Konyndyk, President of Refugees Intl and former lead for COVID (46) & disaster relief (44) @USAID: x.com/JeremyKonynd.... Note the alarming increase in starvation deaths; links in reply.

Posts from Palestine on xitter are all reporting a level of hunger & desperation they've never reported before - people collapsing on the street, no food anywhere, maybe 1 inadequate meal in 2 days or 5 days. Mass death will likely soon begin. Here is a set of posts to give an idea. 1/

Mamdani winning and it's not even close! Rejection of Machiavellian power-mad sex-harasser w full support of Dem establishment & $20M in PAC $$, in favor of a young fresh, guy really committed to ordinary people with a huge grassroots volunteer effort. Huge grassroots victory!

Interesting article. Lots more besides this excerpt.

If you want people to judge this, you really should present the full paragraph. Bruenig is not saying 'no problem'. She's saying the woman was dead (& had left no instructions), so the problem wasn't taking away her choice, it was taking the decision about her life support away from her family.

Aid massacres continue every day. Over 300 killed in them so far.

Superb and important article, pointing out that politically the best way to save biomedical research is to get communities around different diseases informed of the problem, and set them loose on their congresspeople. Right now they just don't know what's going on. How to make this happen?

75 days now of complete blockade/siege of Gaza. People are starving, babies elderly & sick already dying. Meanwhile Israel destroying what's left of Gaza so the living will have no place to return to. An atrocity for the ages and the world is so quiet.

The total siege of Gaza - no entry from outside of anything, food, water, medicine, ... - has passed 7 weeks. Starvation, dehydration approaching. A leading ILi newspaper recognizes the ongoing crime against humanity & calls for its end, www.haaretz.com/opinion/edit.... US media are silent.

This is BS. 1st, article says "Approximately 72% of fatalities between the ages of 13-55 are men", whereas headline says 72% of fatalities are men between 13-55. Notice the difference? 2nd, #'s attached summarize latest 50K-deaths list. Among deaths ages 18-59, 72.8% indeed are men. But: (thread)

The administration's demands for Columbia to get back in good standing and get its withdrawn grant $$ back. This is of course not everything, just the first set of hoops. Katherine Franke, 20+-yr Columbia law prof recently forced out, explains what it means, www.instagram.com/reel/DHKRV8p...

Hi, I'm finally getting around to using this. I'm not quite sure what it does tho. It gives the attached explanation. What exactly does this mean, "the links ... will be recreated"? Does it recreate twitter posts as bluesky posts? Or just link follows and/or followers? Thanks much!

Dem leadership/consultants advocate relying more on big donors, less on small donors, because small donors want transformative change. We have 2 big problems: 1 major party is run by Nazis, and the one that is supposed to lead opposition is more concerned w fighting progressives than fighting nazis.

Great. The new head of the DNC promises not to take money from billionaires who support Republicans, only from the ones who support Dems. That's how you get $$ out of politics! In the meantime, the guy who lost made the big mistake of saying he'd audit the consultants getting rich on Dem campaigns.

on fast but not slow trials. See pic, left=model, rt=data. 2nd, the changing traj's w rxn time are not just a funny quirk, but have implications for task performance: the LIP activity bump serves as a saccade target, so bump displacement toward fixation on slow trials 13/

A simple model replicates all of these features of the data. We model LIP as a retinotopically arranged E/I circuit. Noisy top-down input comes in to the two target locations, driving 2 activity bumps. Deliberation corresponds to the period when the two bumps compete. 8/

Single trials show the same 2 phases. During deliberation, traj's have hi tortuosity ('wiggliness'), run less along the direction of the av traj ("resolution dir") and more orthogonal to it both in the manifold ("uncertainty dir") and off-manifold, and have lower speed. 6/
