This closed circuit situation we have at the moment just adds more pressure on the refs. If everyone gets to see & hear the decision-making process, the abuse they get will massively reduce because everyone has witnessed why they’ve got to each decision.

- Open, transparent decision-making.
- Refs get to correct their own errors
- This ‘stick with call on-field’ nonsense is mostly null & void.
- All collaborate, but refs decision is final
- Review on pitch, on a big screen like TMO if available. Approach ref whilst review underway, instant booking.

Because Jared Gillett gave handball on the pitch, VAR in this incident had a convenient cop out in a decision that was taking too long. PGMOL need to remember the entertainment factor, and should be awarding goals in uncertain circumstances where there’s no evidence to disallow

I wonder if VAR could be changed to a rugby style TMO, where the on-field ref can review himself to the screen to check a decision he’s unsure of. Had Jarred Gillett seen that back, he’d have given the goal. It would speed up some decisions as the pressure wouldn’t be solely on VAR
