Day 7 of #ResearchAdvent - Read

Used to be really into setting reading goals. I still do it but less to compete with myself and more to check in on my work/life balance. If I don’t read at least 2 books a month I know I’m over doing it. Here are two I’m hoping to get to over the holidays.

Got this snazzy toolbox for my art supplies! This is barely even half of them, though it is most of the stuff I use. Will be having a big clear out over the holidays and donating a bunch. Checked out some sketchbook pages from the past couple of years in the process.

Day 4 of #ResearchAdvent - Hope

Recon I will mention this for a few of these prompts but the energy behind the new Glasgow Lab for Intersex, Non-binary & Trans Studies gives me hope. Been great seeing the impressive works of resistance from colleagues & students 🏳️‍⚧️

Thinking of applying to a sociology + arty related thing so pulled out some of my old zines. Feel like they say a lot about my flavour of weird 😅

Kinda want to revisit the boxes in context one as it explores differences between essentialism & social constructionism.

On Tuesday we launched the new Glasgow Lab for Intersex, Non-binary & Trans Studies! Thank you to everyone who came to the launch event & my fellow co-directors. It was a great evening & the first of what Iam sure will be many fantastic GLINTS events.

Absolute must read given the recent rise of AI. Despite feeling more pessimistic than the author I loved her account here, particularly how wide reaching it was. The amount of examples across both geographic contexts and the contexts in which AI is applied was great.

Also almost started greetin at the very sweet thank you gift Esmee drew me. The number of pigeons drawn by students is how I’m going to assess my teaching from now on 🥹😂

Spending my Saturday dog sitting and painting Pat the pigeon. Made a few mistakes but it’s not terrible for a first attempting painting on wood.

Been getting lots of serious stuff done lately. Was thinking what should I do next & the obvious answer was make a comic about a queer pigeon getting some bread. So meet Pat, they are 47 years old & live in a communal coop with a bunch of other middle aged queers.

The physical copy of the handbook I recently contributed to arrived today!

I doubt the novelty of seeing my work published will wear off anytime soon. Due to my dyslexia, I couldn’t read a whole book untill I was about 13 so continually surprised that writing is such a big part of my job 😅
