53 degrees (F) after a snow melt means compost turning and ivy pulling. The hens are loving it. I don’t mind their help scratching up the raised bed this time of year.

Sorry but I canceled class. A delay til 10 when my classes start at 10 just isn’t hitting when I and all my students were hoping for a snow day… so a snow day we shall have.

Here’s a first for a Monday: waking up to an email from a student who wants to THANK ME FOR A LESSON I TAUGHT LAST WEEK.
He said that a metaphor I used in the lesson on “the sociological imagination” really stuck with him so much that he shared it with his group for his Honors class project.

Actually pretty depleted of hope right now. Being a queer woman whose professional expertise is not just in writing but in writing about science, research, social change and equity….. I’ve always known this world wasn’t built for me. But it’s really hitting me hard this morning.

I’ve always enjoyed teaching Mills’ (1959) The Sociological Imagination at the beginning of the semester. It’s the oldest text we read & I find that Mills’ main points still resonate… “people often feel that their private lives are a series of traps… they sense… they cannot overcome their troubles”

I forgot how much I love working in my yard this time of year. Sunny and 39-45 f is amazing weather for doing the #winter #gardening tasks. After almost a month of below freezing temps in January my hens are also loving free-ranging in the dirt with me.
